Widow Of “Candyman” Star Tony Todd Upset At Oscars’ “In Memoriam” Snub

The family of late actor Tony Todd is voicing their frustrations after he was omitted from the Oscars’ “In Memoriam” segment.

The Candyman star’s widow, Fatima Cortez-Todd, told TMZ that she was “angry” over the snub.

Fatima says that Tony’s long career in Hollywood – which includes over 250 film and TV credits – should have been enough to include him in the tribute. She also added that Tony was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 30 years, making the exclusion even more confusing.

Fatima adds that race may have also played a part.

Tony’s widow believes there’s a racial element at play here too … telling us she feels like people of color and women are often ignored as much as possible when it comes time for the Academy to honor the dead.

Noting that there were several other actors excluded from the tribute, Fatima says that the Oscars need to cut other parts of the broadcast to get more folks in the segment. Other actors not included in the tribute include Beverly Hills 90210 actress Shannen Doherty, filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, The Boys actor Chance Perdomo, and Harriet The Spy star Michelle Trachtenberg.

Tony’s rep, Jeffrey Goldberg, tells TMZ that he has received several calls and emails about the omission.

“I’ll just say that I’m disappointed that Tony was forgotten … the Academy might want to reconsider the way they do this section of the broadcast because although it is great that they remember some of those we’ve lost in the past year, they often forget others that should be honored. Tony was my friend and client for over 30 years and I’m just sad that he wasn’t given the honor that he deserved.”

As previously reported, Todd passed away in November 2024 of natural causes. He was 69.
