Keke Palmer has always been one to keep it real—and now she’s putting it all into song. On May 9, the multi-hyphenate star dropped a teaser for her latest release, “My Confessions,” and it’s already got fans talking.
In the track, Keke gets personal, unpacking her emotions from one of the most viral nights of her life. Yes, the one centered on an Usher concert in Vegas and the public fallout with her ex and her son’s father, Darius Jackson.
But the song doesn’t seem like another breakup anthem, but a moment to set the record straight. And for many of us navigating relationships, motherhood, and ambition, it hits home.

In the Instagram reel promoting the track, Keke pairs moody visuals with emotional lyrics, including screenshots of social media headlines, a fictitious courtroom, and what appears to be real text messages from that chaotic time. She doesn’t shy away from the truth. She leans in.
“This one is personal,” she wrote in her caption. “Sometimes the closure we need doesn’t come from a conversation—it comes from being honest with ourselves.”
The lyrics lay it bare: “Summer 23 we was in Vegas right… Forty-eight hours later, online made me a villain for sympathy. But you lied. But the truth is in Vegas we was already over boo.” Whew.
Let’s not forget that Keke addressed the moment before, clapping back with a whole music video with Usher (“Boyfriend”), in which she flipped the narrative with humor and style. But “My Confessions,” reminiscent of her friend Usher’s “Confessions,” feels different.

It’s vulnerable and grown. Written with Keke’s best friend Tayla Parx, the song is another reminder of why Keke remains that girl.
A new mom, a successful actress, a singer, an author, a producer, a podcast host, and a walking blueprint for doing it all, the Big Boss is showing us what it means to be soft and strong, public and private, all at once.
As she said herself, she’s “not here to play perfect.” She’s here to be Keke. And that’s more than enough. Hear the full song and watch the video below.
