Trump Claims He Won’t Run For President, Again (Probably Because He Can’t)

We really shouldn’t be having this conversation, but because President Trump doesn’t believe in following the Constitution, or societal norms, or the unspoken rule of ordering French fries when you go to McDonald’s, we are happy to report that the commander of white supremacy will not be seeking a third time.

This is probably the point where I should remind readers that the president is also a liar, so there is that.

Anyway, during an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press, Trump noted that he will leave the White House after the end of his second term without trying to seek reelection.

“I’ll be an eight-year president; I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,” Trump told Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker in an interview that was broadcast Sunday.

Trump pointed out several of his lackeys as possible carriers of the MAGA torch, including sentient emo eyeliner Vice President JD Vance. He also noted that soggy boat shoe Secretary of State Marco Rubio could also be a possible choice for the top office.

Trump added that he was “not joking” when he floated the idea of running for a third term and explained that it’s not just him who would love for him to stay in office well past his expiration date, but his allies would love for him to run again.

“It’s something that, to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do. I don’t know if that’s constitutional that they’re not allowing you to do it or anything else,” Trump said, NBC News reports.

From NBC News:

The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment says, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Amending the Constitution to abolish that limit would be extremely difficult, requiring the support of either two-thirds of both the House and Senate or two-thirds of state legislatures. Both routes would then require ratification from three-quarters of the states.Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced a House joint resolution in January seeking to amend the Constitution to allow the president to be elected for up to three terms, a legislative effort that so far has seen little movement. Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman of New York, who served as lead counsel during Trump’s first impeachment, introduced a resolution in response urging his colleagues to reaffirm the 22nd Amendment’s prohibition on a third term.

Trump told Welker he has had no official meetings specifically about establishing a pathway for a third term, but he’s heard “different concepts” about potential options — including a legally dubious strategy in which Vance would seek the presidency and then pass the role on to Trump.

“Other people say, ‘You can have a write-in vote,’” Trump added, despite the constitutional limitation.

All of this started with Trump’s two low vibrational off-spring Beavis and Butthead, (seriously, I can’t remember their names and don’t want to look it up. I think the one that looks a lot like an unemployed vampire is Eric, but I don’t know) started selling Trump 2028 red hats. The hats were listed for $50 with the description: “The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat,” according to NBC News.

“There are many people selling the 2028 hat,” Trump said. “But this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican to carry it forward.”

Trump is cool on VP Vance. He wouldn’t publicly admit it, but there is no way that the president would give a full-throated endorsement of the guy while he’s still in office. Trump wants everyone to know that he’s the man and openly gushing over Vance would dim the president’s light and we all know he’s never going to do that.

“In February, Trump told Fox News’ Bret Baier that Vance is “very capable” but that he did not necessarily view Vance as his successor,” NBC News notes.

Trump might actually be telling the truth this time, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t still be in office for a third term.

Let me explain: Trump has said that he won’t run for a third term and that he would leave office after his second term. That part might be true, but Trump could be added to a Vance for president ticket as the walking emo-cutoff glove’s vice president. Let’s say that Trump is Vance’s VP and Vance wins the 2028 presidency. Vance could step down and boom, a third term for Trump.

I know. I know. I hate everything.
