Thousands of Hoosiers in the city for the game are now in the wake of the tragedy.

It’s unclear if any Indiana residents were among the victims, though local officials believe most of the casualties are from New Orleans.

In response to the attack, the University of Notre Dame canceled the 2:30 p.m. Bayou Bash and the 4 p.m. President’s Pre-Game Celebration “for the safety of everyone involved” and to offer solidarity with those impacted.

The FBI says it’s investigating the event as an act of terrorism.

A truck plowed into a group of people celebrating New Year’s in the French Quarter this morning just after 3:15 a.m., and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.

The suspect is dead and has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said two officers were shot but are in stable condition.

The FBI is in charge of the investigation and are also looking into possible explosives found at the scene.
