‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Exclusive: Wendell Pierce & Erika Woods Talk Snaps & Pop’s Matching Drip

Snaps (Wendell Pierce) and Pop (Erika Woods) are the OGs on the block. They play no games when it comes to business and their style.

The old school bank robbing duo/couple Snaps and Pop made their appearance in season 3 of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, immediately making their presence felt in Southside, Jamaica Queens.

The two OGs exude calm, while letting everyone that interacts or does business with them know that they are running sh*t and don’t play any games. Outside of their chill gangster demeanor, another point that sticks out about them is their matching drip, which instantly became a hit with viewers.

Snaps & Pop’s Matching Fashion Helps Wendell Pierce Connect With Erika Pierce

CASSIUSLife’s Bernard “Beanz” Smalls spoke with Pierce and Woods, a couple off the screen, about their characters’ unique style. Both actors immediately gave props to Raising Kanan‘s costume designer, Tsigie White, who designed the character’s custom wardrobe.

“Custom made,” Pierce begins, referring to Snaps and Pop’s drip. “And it is really appreciated because the time and effort that they put into designing it and putting it together, once you put it on, you take on that responsibility of the time and the effort that went into putting on this costume is the time and effort that these two characters put into looking like each other and the time and effort that they put into being together.”

“So it shows you how meticulous they are about their relationship. And so it’s one of the best examples of how in this collaborative art form we’re in, where a costume design actually helped us with our choices as actors because it really helped me connect with Erica in a way that is specific and unique and detailed like their outfits in their relationship. And that was important that we fit like a hand and a glove.”

“And so I hope that that illuminates people’s perspective when they see a couple dressed like that the next time at the cookout, the next time at the block party, the next time at the concert you go. They put time and effort into looking like that and they have taken that same time and effort to put into their relationship, and so they need to be applauded for that.”

Woods adds, “I love that answer. I do. Just some of the most gangster —I hate to say that word—successful people that I knew growing up were very meticulous about their clothes and it bleeds over into their business.”

“So I love that we are so meticulous as characters about our clothes and what we wear, and what are you wearing. And we take the time to figure out, ‘Okay, we’re going to wear this today’ or ‘We’re going to do this today.’ And I think that that is a, again, another character in the show that’s like a child, our clothes. This is our image and we care a lot about our image and our business.”

Does Kanan Have Snap & Pop’s Respect?

In season 3, Kanan quickly gets involved with Snaps and Pop, and who can blame them because they look cool as hell, so why not? The young up-and-coming hustler doesn’t know that these OGs have a plan regarding how beneficial he can be to their business. So it’s no surprise that both Pierce and Woods feel that Raq’s son is just another income stream for them when asked how the two characters view Kanan.

“Definitely just a stream of income first. That’s the first thing. That’s the facts,” Pierce tells CASSIUSLife. “People always say, ‘Don’t take it personally. It’s business.’”

“But I do see in him someone, I like to try to catch him before he makes mistakes, love to have some sort of influence on him. That’s why he’s always giving him unsolicited advice. You got to watch it. You understand? This doesn’t change our relationship. That does change our relationship. This is who you got to look out for.”

Pierce continues, “I understand the relationship you have with your mother. He’s demonstrating his wisdom and also letting him know, trying to help him not make the mistakes that he sees coming down the road for him because of the sin of youth. Right? The sin of youth is the fact that they think they know something that nobody else has ever gone through, and when you become an old head, you realize, ‘Man, I’ve been there and I know you feel like you’re the first one figuring it out or the first one going through it, but we’ve been there and I’m trying to keep you away from making the mistakes that I see you about to make.’”

Woods’ adds, “Yeah. I don’t respect anyone that turns on their mother or their family. Loyalty is everything to us. So the minute he was like, ‘I’m not down with my mom.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, we can play him. Totally do not respect him at all.’”

Well damn. Kanan might have bitten off more than he can chew with Snaps and Pop.
