‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Recap: Diana Goes On A Quest For Revenge

todaySeptember 15, 2024

Previously on Power Book: II Ghost, one of Detective Carter’s (Michael Ealy) dirty cops took her rage out on poor Diana (LaToya Tonodeo), possibly harming her and Tariq’s (Michael Rainey Jr.) unborn child. This week, we see the fallout of that decision, and if you guess it just brings more drama, you are correct.

Diana Wakes Up To Bad News

Welp, so much for Riq and Diana becoming parents. Diana wakes up from her vicious beating at the hands of Felicia to a very sad Riq, who tells her, “I’m so sorry,” leading her to figure out she lost the baby immediately.

An understandably angry Diana blames Tariq’s involvement in the drug business as one of the main factors leading to the incident, completely ignoring the fact her family is also in the drug game. Still, we get it: she’s furious.

Anyway, she kicks Riq out of the room. As Riq leaves, Monet (Mary J. Blige) and Cane (Woody McClain) show up, and Diana reveals that Felicia is behind the attack.

Riq immediately hits Davis (Clifford “Method Man” Smith) to get the addresses of Carter’s crew because he wants revenge for what happened. Before he can do that, Noma (Caroline Chikezie) requests his presence to assist her in landing more government contracts to help launder her cash. Still, Davis reminds her she needs an American citizen to run the company and someone she can trust, and he offers his services.

Noma smirked at the notion, but that didn’t stop Davis from trying to GTD, aka get the draws.

Congressman Tate Wants Blood

Detective Carter didn’t help himself when he killed Detective Kamaal (Lahmard Tate). He only made things worse. Congressman Tate (Larenz Tate) is back, and he is pissed.

Carter lies to Tate, telling him a drug dealer canceled his brother’s Christmas, and the corrupt politician demands answers. Carter further strays from the truth by telling Tate it was the Russians who killed his brother. Tate then demands that Carter give him a call the minute he finds his brother’s killer.

We also learn that Carter has yet to tell his band of crooked cops that he killed a team member and instructs Nico and Felicia to take out the Russians before Tate’s involvement welcomes in Investigative Affairs Bureau snooping around again.

Diana Is About That Revenge Life

Remember when Diana wanted nothing to do with killing or selling drugs? That all goes out the window in this episode because she wants to kill Felicia, and we get it.

Monet tries to intervene and handle the situation by talking with Carter, who is shocked to learn that Diana was pregnant (Felicia broke his rule) and that Felicia put her hands and feet on Diana.

Despite all of that, Carter is not willing to give Monet an exception in their deal, telling her, “You think I’m just going to give you permission to execute one of my cops?” So that means Monet is sh*t out of luck with this plan.

Carter warns her that he will throw her in Rikers if she retaliates. Speaking of Rikers, Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray, still behind bars) calls Diana and learns about what happened to her. He warns his sister to let him or Monet handle the situation.

It’s too late. Diana tells her brother that Felica “is mine,” and she heads to Monet’s closet to grab a gun. She’s officially on her revenge tour.

Carter confronts his bonehead taskforce member Felicia about the shenanigans, and he learns she is doing drugs again and that it was Riq who killed Zion at that safehouse and not her. She shows him the surveillance footage of Riq and Brayden (Gianni Paolo) taking out Zion.

He then instructs her not to say anything and to go home. What they don’t know is that Diana is following them.

Tasha Has A Stern Warning For Riq

Riq needs some advice, so he decides to pay his mother, Tasha (Naturi Naughton), for a visit. Using her mother’s intuition, she immediately knows something is wrong.

Taking after his father and inheriting his knack for stubbornness, Riq swears he can fix this situation. He tells his momma everything, including what he plans to do once he gets the information from Davis.

After telling Tasha, “I’m going to make a move,” she counters by making some salient points:

Diana doesn’t need him to be her savior because she is rightfully angry and wants to handle the situation herself.
It’s perfectly okay for Riq to be angry because that baby was a chance for him and Diana to have a better life.
Killing a cop is not a good idea.

She also warns her son to distance himself from the Tejada clan if they take any action: “Because your family is here, and we are waiting for you. So please be smart. Be strategic.”

Riq responds by pointing out that his mom wasn’t smart nor strategic when she shot Monet, and she responds, “that bitch don’t know I shot her.”

Effie Figures Out The Plot. Cane Has A Proposal For Noma

Effie (Alix Lapri) and Brayden head to a police officer’s home and pretend to be carjacking victims. While Brayden is on distraction duty, Effie sneaks into the cop’s wife’s bedroom to use a laptop to gain access to the NYPD’s computer system.

Things get a bit nervous after Brayden nearly blows their cover when he shares contradictory information that goes against their story.

Thanks to Effie having a backup plan, she sends a signal to Cane, who shows up dressed up like a police officer, allowing them to get out of the house without triggering suspicion.

Looking up the report from the Russian bust, Effie discovers that Carter and his team have been fattening their pockets after conducting raids on drug operations.

Cane and Effie share a tender moment, signaling there is still hope. She will wait for him to return after he finishes what he needs to do. Cane heads to Noma’s apartment, stumbling upon his boss/lover finishing up a “meeting” with Davis.

Fresh off his precious moment with Effie, Cane proposes to marry Noma, giving her another option that doesn’t involve sleeping with Davis.

Noma is intrigued by Cane’s proposal. He even tells her he will accept whatever kind of partnership she wants, and Noma rewards Cane with a kiss.

Meanwhile, back at his penthouse, a disappointed Effie realizes that Cane is not coming back, and she leaves.

Things Get Worse For Everyone

Dru is still not done killing folks while behind bars. He takes out the fellow inmate who was threatening to kill him and exposes Detective Carter, making it look like he hung himself.

On the outside, Detective Carter kills a member of the Russian gang and presents the man’s corpse to Congressman Tate, telling him he was the man who killed his brother. Tate is satisfied, for now.

Carter then links with Dru, who once again instructs Carter to leave Diana and Monet alone since he has held up his end of the bargain. Carter disagrees and warns Dru not to take action for what happened to Diana.

But what Carter doesn’t know is that Diana is already carrying out her plot for revenge and manages to sneak into Felicia’s home and kill the cop by smashing her head with a skillet.

Diana then notices children’s toys on the floor, and now she realizes she just killed a mom. Panicked, Diana calls Riq, and after he arrives, Felicia’s young son wakes up asking where his mother is.

Riq and Diana pretend to be cops covering for his mother, and the situation doesn’t improve.

Tariq tries to explain to Diana that revenge didn’t help him get over Raina’s death, and their discussion is interrupted when Carter and Dru show up.

Carter reveals that he was going to kill Monet and Diana, but Dru reveals that confessing it was Noma’s drugs they stole helped secure their survival.

The crooked cop tells them he will make Felicia’s death look like an accident, but he wants them to get him leverage on Noma in return. He instructs them to leave so he and Dru can clean up the mess, and the episode ends.
