“I hope Trump deports you!”: Racist Remarks on Receipt Spark Outrage

Blatant racism strikes again…

Support is pouring in for a central Ohio Mexican restaurant after a customer left a pretty offensive message in place of a tip.

When the customer and her family left Cazuelas Mexican Cantina on East Broad Street, staff found a receipt with “Zero” written on the tip line and the message, “I hope Trump deports you!!!” signed at the bottom.

The note quickly went viral after a server shared an image of it on social media. Within 24 hours, the post had gained more than 8,000 likes and sparked national outrage.

Employees say the server involved, Ricardo, works just one day a week while juggling two jobs and was simply doing his job. The dispute reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over a coupon policy.

Following the viral post, locals have rallied around Ricardo and Cazuelas. Many are planning to dine at the restaurant during his next shift to show support to the server. A GoFundMe campaign was also set up for Ricardo has already surpassed the initial $1,000 goal, raising over $7,000.

The woman identified as the customer, Stephanie Lovins, has deleted her social media accounts. Her employer, CENTURY 21, issued a statement:

“We are aware of the situation with the agent in question. Hate has no place within the CENTURY 21 brand, and we are taking this very seriously. After investigating the situation and connecting with the respective broker, as all companies affiliated with the CENTURY 21 brand are independently owned and operated, we can confirm that this agent is no longer affiliated with the brand.” 

Cazuelas Mexican Cantina also issued a statement, condemning discrimination at their restaurant.
