Usher’s 1997 slow jam “Nice & Slow” is an all-time classic, especially with its opening verse: “It’s 7 o’clock on the dot, I’m in my droptop, cruising the streets…” However, a recent viral video from the music icon has us wondering: Did we get this lyric wrong THE ENTIRE TIME?!

In a TikTok video originally posted on January 31, Usher sang a few bars of the song as a request from a fan. However, what made the clip stand out was the fact that he sang the following:

It’s 7 o’clock on the dot, I’m in my droptop… Who’s in the streets?

Needless to say, the singer’s attempt to cause a “Mandela Effect” with his own song got a lot of folks in a tizzy. One commenter wrote in the comments, “Usher you’re not about to gaslight me no sir. Cruisin the streets ok. Where did you get “who’s in the streets!?” Don’t you ever Usher Raymond IV!”

And the hoopla only intensified on social media in the weeks since.

So, what is the truth? Did fans get the lyric wrong all along, or was Usher just gaslighting the public for fun? We’ll let you be the judge.
