Eddie Murphy Will Play George Clinton In Untitled Biopic From Amazon MGM Studios

Eddie Murphy is reuniting with director Bill Condon in hopes of recreating the same magic when they worked together on Dreamgirls, in the upcoming untitled biopic on Parliament-Funkadelic leader George Clinton.

Spotted on Variety, Condon will direct the untitled Amazon MGM Studios project, and Murphy will star as George Clinton, aka P-Funk, leader of the iconic band Parliament-Funkadelic.

Virgil Williams is penning the script from Max Werner’s original draft. A Lifelong George Clinton fan, Catherine Davis got the project off the ground when she brought it to the legendary comedian/actor.

As mentioned above, Murphy and Condon worked together on the 2006 film Dreamgirls. Murphy’s performance in the film earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for best-supporting actor.

Murphy will produce the film under his Eddie Murphy Productions banner and John Davis for Davis Entertainment. Eddie Murphy Productions’ Charisse Hewitt-Webster, George Clinton, Archie Ivy, and Jeff Jampol will serve as executive producers.

Per Variety:

Based on Clinton’s memoir, “Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?,” the film is the untold story of the influential pioneer of funk and his tumultuous journey to founding musical collective Parliament-Funkadelic. Known for their outlandish sci-fi themes, surreal sounds and psychedelic shows, Clinton and his band’s wild road redefined music and culture.

The George Clinton biopic will be one of Murphy’s latest films with Amazon MGM Studios, joining his other two projects, Coming 2 America and Candy Cane Lane.

His next project with the studio will be The Pickup with Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson.
