In its ongoing effort to convince white people — the most socially and economically privileged and dominant racial group in the Western world — that they are an oppressed people while denying the actual systemic racism that exists in America, the Trump administration has targetted 45 colleges with allegations of “race-exclusionary practices.”
According to Axios, the Department of Education announced Friday that it is investigating nearly four dozen colleges and threatening them with loss of federal funding if they are found to be engaging in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. (You know how President Donald Trump is always saying education should be left up to the states? Well, it turns out what he really means is, “Education should be left to the states, but also, if the schools in those states don’t do what I want, they will be defunded by the federal government.” Shocking, I know.) The department cited the 2023 Supreme Court decision overturning Affirmative Action.
The truly insidious part of Trump’s agenda to rid America of racial discrimination towards the one racial group in America that has never collectively experienced systemic racism is that white conservative officials are perverting policies put in place to end the legally sanctioned anti-Black discrimination that had existed in America for the overwhelming majority of its existence, which is exactly why DEI and Affirmative Action were ever necessary in the first place.
From Axios:
Framing schools’ DEI programs, which are meant to provide equal opportunities for students of color, as “race-exclusionary” also aligns with some Trump allies’ desire to reinterpret Civil Rights-era laws to focus on “anti-white racism” rather than discrimination against people of color, Axios’ Alex Thompson has reported.
The letter comes after the Education Department warned 60 colleges, including Harvard and Yale, their federal funds could be cut if they don’t address allegations of antisemitic harassment on campus.
The department said in a statement that the schools were being investigated for potentially violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which obliges schools that receive federal funds to provide students with an environment free of discrimination based on race, color, or national origin.
Just imagine that: Systemic racism against Black people doesn’t exist, but let’s use these laws that prove systemic racism against Black people did and does exist to fight systemic racism against white people that definitely does not and has not ever existed.
Mind you, MAGA legislators and officials have never presented a shred of unambiguous evidence that white people are negatively impacted by DEI initiatives or that recruitment, hiring or scholarship standards have been lowered in an effort to provide Black people, people of color and other underserved groups with more opportunity.
Making white supremacy great again was always the point.
