We’re just a couple short weeks away from the release of Netflix’s upcoming film The Six Triple Eight. Last night (December 4th) at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, California, the streamer celebrated the highly anticipated project. Continue reading to check out some photos from the event.
The Tyler Perry film based on the 2019 WWII History magazine article, “Fighting a Two-Front War”, by Kevin M. Hymel honors the heroic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, which was the only all-Black, all-female Women’s Army Corps unit deployed overseas during World War II. Led by Kerry Washington as Captain Charity Adams, the movie chronicles the battalion’s extraordinary mission: clearing a massive three-year backlog of mail for American troops in just 90 days. The Six Triple Eight offers a glimpse into the women’s determination and resilience amidst the harsh realities of war and discrimination.
Alongside Washington, the ensemble cast includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey. With choreography by Debbie Allen and an original song by Diane Warren performed by H.E.R., The Six Triple Eight aims to highlight the untold contributions of these trailblazing women. Perry’s inspiration for the film came after meeting Lena Derriecott King, one of the last surviving members of the 6888th, who passed away earlier this year. Her remarkable story and personal belongings, including Captain Adams’ own military trunk, enriched the authenticity of the script.
The Six Triple Eight will hit select theaters this Friday (December 6th) and be available on Netflix on December 20th. Majority of the filmmakers, cast and crew that were involved in the film showed up in their best fits to celebrate the grand occasion. Other notable guests included Tina Knowles, Big Sean, George Lucas, Vivica A. Fox, Nick Barrotta, Brittany O’Grady, Swizz Beatz, Loni Love and more! Check out some photos from the premiere below.
