At a time when R&B music is making a much-needed resurgence on the radio, Def Jam singing sensation Muni Long is without a question one of the primary purveyors of the movement. Her now-signature song, “Hrs and Hrs,” topped the U.S. Rhythmic chart back in 2022 and even earned her a GRAMMY last year for “Best R&B Performance.”

Many thought history would repeat itself again this year with the release of her equally-viral smash single, “Made For Me.” Top 20 on the Hot 100, top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs plus nominations at both the VMAs and BET Awards have all been bestowed on the single since its release on September 15, 2023. However, it appears the song won’t be shown that same love during the upcoming 2025 GRAMMYs ceremony due to a technicality pertaining to Muni’s aforementioned drop date.

“I’m not crying, my eyes just get sweaty sometimes,” the 36-year-old singer-songwriter joked when announcing the upsetting news to fans on social media (seen above) this past Monday. To put things in a bit more perspective, The Recording Academy selects songs to nominate for the annual awards ceremony using the set of guidelines seen below:

Sept. 16, 2023 – Aug. 30, 2024 — Release Eligibility Period
July 8, 2024, 9 A.M. PT — Media Company Registration begins
Aug. 23, 2024, 6 P.M. PT — Media Company Registration ends
July 17, 2024, 9 A.M PT — Online Entry Process (OEP) Access Period begins
Aug. 30, 2024, 6 P.M. PT — Online Entry Process (OEP) Access Period ends
Oct. 4, 2024, 9 A.M. PT — First Round Voting begins
Oct. 15, 2024, 6 P.M. PT — First Round Voting ends
Nov. 8, 2024 Nominations Announcement
Dec. 12, 2024, 9 A.M. PT — Final Round Voting begins
14 days after the announcement of nominations — Deadline for errors and omissions to the nominations
Jan. 3, 2025, 6 P.M. PT — Final Round Voting ends
Feb. 2, 2025 — 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards

As you can see, Muni Long’s “Made For Me” missed the eligibility period by just a few “hrs and hrs” — 24 to be exact. Sadly, nowhere in the GRAMMY handbook does it make room for even the slightest exceptions. Fans still found themselves upset that such a small window could result in the overlook, or the simple fact that one of 2024’s most worthy R&B songs for GRAMMY gold isn’t even nominated.

Keep scrolling to see what many are saying on social media about R&B singer Muni Long’s hit single “Made For Me” missing the eligibility window at the upcoming 2025 GRAMMY Awards, and let us know whether you think it’s fair or not:

3. Muni Long’s “Made for Me” isn’t eligible for a Grammy which is a fuckin travesty. It’s literally the best R&B song I’ve heard this year. Hands down one of the first solid wedding songs I’ve heard in a decade.
