The Harris-Walz campaign on Wednesday debuted a new ad that aims to address the top economic concerns for Black American workers ahead of the 2024 Election, which is exactly 33 days away.

Entitled “Paycheck,” the 30-second spot is set to run in seven battleground states where Black voters are expected to play a crucial role in determining the next president of the United States.

Over the next five weeks, residents in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will see and hear the new Harris-Walz campaign ad on TV and radio that lays out Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ economic vision.

The ad deals with themes like costs for groceries and housing at a time when both have disproportionately affected Black Americans, even as inflation is finally cooling a bit.

Specifically, the new ad expounds on Harris’ previously stated intention to create economic conditions where workers can “get to keep more of” their paychecks. That vow includes banning price gouging on a federal level and securing $25,000 down payments for first-time homeowners, more than 500,000 of which are estimated to be Black.

It is something Harris takes very seriously, Harris-Walz Principal Deputy Campaign Manager Quentin Fulks said.

“Vice President Harris has been clear: she is not taking a single voter for granted and is putting in the work to earn each and very vote,” Fulks said in an exclusive statement shared with NewOne. “She has led this administration in delivering historic progress for our community – more Black Americans with healthcare coverage now than ever before, not to mention Black employment at a record high. As President, she is committed to creating an opportunity economy that provides Black Americans with the tools needed to not just get by, but get ahead.”

Fulks added: “Black voters are going to show up for the Harris-Walz ticket come Election Day because they know there is only one candidate in this election truly prioritizing their economic well-being. ”

Harris doubles down on that sentiment in the new ad.

“You work hard for your paycheck, you should get to keep more of it. As president,” Harris says. “I’ll make that my priority.”

Watch the new ad below.

The new ad comes at a time when polling suggests that Harris enjoys a disproportionate amount of support from Black voters. However, data shows that Black voters have not rallied around her campaign as much as they did for President Joe Biden’s in 2020.

However, political experts have said that there is still time for Harris to make up that small difference before Election Day.

In the meantime, Black voter registration rates have soared since Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee in July. Specifically, young Black women voters are leading the overall rate of new voter registrations, and it’s not even close, likely because of Harris’ candidacy.

Among all voters in 13 key states – some of whom will see the new ad – the voter registration rate for Black women is up more than 175% compared to the same period in 2020, data firm TargetSmart found in its analysis. That’s nearly triple what it was four years ago.

In fact, the rate of voter registrations among all Black voters is up by more than 85%.

“People who are newly registered to vote are much more likely to vote on Election Day,” said Tom Bonier, a senior adviser to TargetSmart, the data firm that crunched the numbers tracked since July 21 when Biden dropped out of the race and Harris replaced him.

That all bodes well for the Harris-Walz campaign on Election Day.
