Travis Scott — Days Before Rodeo

Travis Scott has become one of music’s biggest names since releasing his acclaimed project Days Before Rodeo for free back in 2014. Now, the Houston artist celebrates the offering’s 10-year anniversary by releasing it more widely via digital streaming platforms.

Scott’s DBR features fan-favorites like “Don’t Play” (The 1975 and Big Sean); “Skyfall” (Young Thug); and “Mamacita” (Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug). Migos and Peewee Longway also appear on “Sloppy Toppy.”

Days Before Rodeo dropped as a free album in 2014. “People keep overlooking it as a mixtape. That’s why I keep stressing; this is a free album,” he told Sway Calloway in 2014. “Don’t undermine this because we didn’t put a price tag on it. I’m giving people the option to expand their mind and then, on my album, you’ll have something to buy into.”

Fans have certainly bought in. Since releasing Days Before Rodeo, Scott has elevated his career into superstar status. He now tours the globe and explores business deals with the likes of McDonald’s, Audemars Piguet, and NIKE.

Benny The Butcher f. Drake — “Buffalo Freestyle”

After dropping a series of singles with the likes of Camila Cabello, Gordo, Latto, 21 Savage and Young Thug, Drake heads over to Buffalo for a Griselda connection. Two years since the song first hit the internet via leaks, Drizzy’s Benny The Butcher collab is finally out.

Drake kicks “Buffalo Freestyle” off with a verse. “I’m iller than the illness that these people wish me / Drake be joshing around, but life wasn’t Nickelodeon or Disney,” he raps on the song. “Is you kidding me? My resume is thicker than Nicki / I’m busy-busy.

Benny takes the baton for the second verse. “Despite the well wishes from y’all, I held distance,” he raps. “They praying my success stories turn into failed missions / They tying me to greats / Every other week, I’m buying me a safe / I learned it’s more satisfying when you wait.”

The Butcher has been waiting. Last year, he told Joe Budden that the wait actually made him upset. “I was pissed, I’m not gonna lie,” he said, according to VIBE. “I was pissed, man. It’s a f-cking Drake record. It was surely my biggest record…and the record’s just sitting in my pocket.”

But, Benny says he says he wasn’t mad at Drake. “I don’t take it to heart,” he explained. “No way did I take it like, ‘Damn, he f-cked me over!’ I swear to God. I don’t take it like that because this is mothaf-cking Drake, the biggest artist in the world. Even for him to hit me up personally, that lets me know where he at.”

Benny dropped “Buffalo Freestyle” as part of a three pack called Buffalo Butch, Vol. 1. The project also features Fabolous (“Hard Way Freestyle”) and 38 Spesh (“Penny & Shaq”).

Cash Cobain — Play Cash Cobain

Cash Cobain has seemingly taken over New York with his brand of what he calls “Sexy Drill.” Many stars have taken to this melodic and often raunchy music, including collaborators like Drake, J. Cole, and Ice Spice, among others. Now, in the heat of his buzz, the rising Bronx star unleashes his new album, Play Cash Cobain.

This is a star-studded affair. His single “Problem,” for example, features 15 artists alone. That list includes Fabolous, Big Sean, 6LACK, Luh Tyler, Flo Milli, Kaliii, Lay Bankz, Chow Lee, Flee, Anycia, YN Jay, Don Q, Rob49, Kenzo B, and Laila! Elsewhere, Cash collaborates with Don Toliver, Quavo, and Bay Swag.

Cash recently spoke about his sound’s evolution and what it adds to the musical landscape. “I see me evolving the Hip-Hop sound with everything new that I bring to the table,” he told Apple Music. “I always strive for something different, something new.”

While it may seem like this buzz came out of nowhere, Cobain says it’s been brewing for some time. “It wasn’t easy to get where I’m at, it took hard work and dedication. It wasn’t no overnight success but I’m here now,” he added. “Job’s not done. Job’s not finished. Gotta keep going. I’m just getting started.”

Jaylen Brown f. A$AP Ferg — “Just Do It”

Jaylen Brown is at the top of his game. He’s coming off an NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics, where he took home the NBA Finals MVP trophy. But before the new season kicks off, the 3x All-Star takes on a new game, the rap game. Today, Brown links up with A$AP Ferg for his new single, “Just Do It.”

The song’s title seems to reference his ongoing feud with NIKE. The lyrics point to this idea as well, even if it’s a subtle nod to kicks: “Problems too deep for any therapist / If we could run it back, would you cherish it…like I cherish you? / Now, you get replaced like a pair of shoes.”

For his part, Ferg celebrates Brown’s championship achievements and his love for music. “Bad Brazilian with the bounce, I caught the rebound / We the champions, confetti still up in the streets now / Ballin’, ain’t the only thing we know / I think it’s kinda obviously, Jaylen up in the studio.”

Brown also seems to nod towards the NIKE issue in the song’s music video. “Fans across the globe are reacting to the unexpected absence of Jaylen Brown in the Olympics,” one journalist says in the visual’s intro. Another voice says: “Fans can’t seem to shake the feeling that Brown’s been blacklisted due to his ongoing conflict with Ni [pronounced Nigh]…” But before the final word is fully uttered, the song’s beat comes in.
