In today’s “State of the State,” Amanda and  Supreme discuss the issues with Gov. Newsom ticketing the homeless in California — who’s paying the bill?!

Homelessness is unfortunately an issue affecting us on a global scale, but California specifically is in a particular state of crisis as nearly 30% of all homelessness in America is accredited to The Golden State.

However, does making life even more complicated for those who can’t afford adequate housing seem like the route to go? We don’t think so here at The Amanda Seales Show, but that appears to be the plan of California Gov. Gavin Newsom following his executive order this past Thursday (7/25) calling on California officials to start dismantling homeless encampments.

In today’s “State of the State,” Amanda and  Supreme discuss not only the issues that arise from trying to ticket the homeless — who’s paying the bill?! — but also had some fun with how Newsom could put his bill-writing power to better use. Governors Mansion For The Homeless, anyone?

More info below, via CNN:

“The move to begin dismantling thousands of encampments throughout California comes after the high court ruled last month in favor of an Oregon city that ticketed homeless people for sleeping outside. The ruling rejected arguments that such ‘anti-camping’ ordinances violated the Constitution’s ban on ‘cruel and unusual’ punishment.”

‘This executive order directs state agencies to move urgently to address dangerous encampments while supporting and assisting the individuals living in them — and provides guidance for cities and counties to do the same,’ Newson said in a statement. ‘There are simply no more excuses. It’s time for everyone to do their part.”
