The Boss Barbie: Chicago Sky Forward Angel Reese Joins Unrivaled

Today (July 24th), Unrivaled, the groundbreaking professional women’s basketball league cofounded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, announced that WNBA All-Star, NCAA Champion, and LSU legend Angel Reese is the latest athlete to join the league in its inaugural season, which tips off in Miami January 2025. Unrivaled and Reese shared the news in a collab post on Instagram this morning.

Reese is the 10th athlete and first WNBA rookie to commit to Unrivaled, leading the charge for this year’s WNBA rookie class. She joins an All-star roster of previously announced athletes including Stewart (New York Liberty), Collier (Minnesota Lynx), Chelsea Gray (Las Vegas Aces), Arike Ogunbowale (Dallas Wings), Jewell Lloyd (Seattle Storm), Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces), Rhyne Howard (Atlanta Dream), Kahleah Copper (Phoenix Mercury), and Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces).

The innovative player-owned league is changing the landscape of women’s basketball. A league owned by players, Unrivaled athletes will have equity and a vested interest in its success. Led by Commissioner Micky Lawler and President Alex Bazzell, the league will also feature historic contract opportunities offering the highest average salary in women’s professional sports league history. Featuring 30 of the top women’s basketball players across six teams for a 3-on-3, compressed full court style of play, Unrivaled will deliver the most entertaining and competitive form of the sport for fans.

Unrivaled is backed by legendary athletes and industry titans, including Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Carmelo Anthony, Steve Nash, Gary Vaynerchuck, Ann Sarnoff, John Skipper, and David Levy. Just last week, Unrivaled announced its first and founding partner, Ally Financial. Ally will serve as the official retail banking partner of the league, with widescale visibility across several facets of the league: including as the jersey patch partner for all six teams, activating hospitality and fan engagement opportunities, appearing in online/digital content and in-arena signage.
