For those of you rushing to file your taxes before April 15… you have a little more breathing room than you think!

As reported by 11Alive, “Tax Day” for several states affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton is May 1, 2025. The deadline was extended by the IRS back in October, and it applies to both tax filing and payment.

The tax deadline was extended for Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The IRS noted that in addition to individual tax returns, several business returns are also extended, including:

  • Calendar year 2024 partnership and S Corporation returns normally due on March 17
  • Quarterly estimated tax payments normally due on April 15
  • Calendar year 2024 corporate and fiduciary income tax returns and payments normally due on April 15.

Who is eligible for Georgia’s extended deadline?

“Affected taxpayers” eligible for the extended deadline, according to the IRS, includes:

  • Individuals whose principal residence is located in a covered disaster area and their spouse, if filing jointly.
  • Business entities or sole proprietors whose principal place of business is located in a covered disaster area.
  • Relief workers affiliated with government or philanthropic organizations assisting in a covered disaster area.
  • Taxpayers not located in a disaster area but whose records necessary to meet a deadline to perform certain acts are maintained or located in a covered disaster area.
  • Any individual visiting a covered disaster area who was killed or injured as a result of the disaster, or any other person determined by the IRS to be affected by a federally declared disaster.
