Netflix has released the official trailer for Tyler Perry’s’ upcoming Netflix film, The Six Triple Eight. Check out some first look photos from the film and watch the trailer inside.

Perry’s upcoming film honors the heroic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, which was the only all-Black, all-female Women’s Army Corps unit deployed overseas during World War II. Led by Kerry Washington as Captain Charity Adams, the movie chronicles the battalion’s extraordinary mission: clearing a massive three-year backlog of mail for American troops in just 90 days.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the women’s determination and resilience amidst the harsh realities of war and discrimination. Washington’s performance embodies the spirit of leadership and defiance as she rallies her unit with the declaration, “A lot of people do not want us to succeed. We have the most to prove.”

Perry’s inspiration for the film came after meeting Lena Derriecott King, one of the last surviving members of the 6888th, who passed away earlier this year. Her remarkable story and personal belongings, including Captain Adams’ own military trunk, enriched the authenticity of the script.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, and Oprah Winfrey, along with Susan Sarandon and Dean Norris in supporting roles. With choreography by Debbie Allen and an original song by Diane Warren performed by H.E.R., The Six Triple Eight aims to highlight the untold contributions of these trailblazing women.

The Six Triple Eight premieres in select theaters on December 6 and begins streaming on Netflix December 20.
